Retirement Income Planning in Cedar Park

You spent decades saving. Now the job is turning that money into a paycheck that shows up every month and does not run dry. We sit down with you, look at what you have, and lay out plain options for steady income in retirement.

What planning your retirement income involves

Building savings and living on them are separate problems. During your working years, you're trying to grow a balance. After the paychecks end, you're trying to replace them. That calls for deciding how much to take each month, which accounts to tap first, and how to keep the bills paid if you outlive your estimate or the market falls early in retirement.

We start with what most people already hold: a 401(k) or IRA, Social Security, perhaps a pension, perhaps a life insurance policy with cash value. Then we show where annuities and other insurance products might close the gaps. Some clients need plenty of guaranteed income, and others need very little. We tell you which one describes you.

Because Texas has no state income tax, your retirement money goes further. Federal taxes still apply, so we time withdrawals with them in mind and coordinate with your tax preparer if you have one.

What we cover with you

A full income and expense picture

We list every source of money coming in and every bill going out. Most people have never seen both on one page. It is the starting point for everything else.

Social Security timing

Claiming at 62, full retirement age or 70 changes your check for life. We walk through what each choice means for you and for a surviving spouse.

Annuity options, explained plainly

Some annuities pay a set amount for life. Others grow first and pay later. We explain how each works, what the fees and surrender periods look like, and whether one belongs in your plan at all.

Withdrawal order

Pulling from the wrong account first can raise your tax bill. We sketch a sensible order for taxable, tax-deferred and Roth money, and flag required minimum distributions before they arrive.

Protecting the people you leave behind

Income for you should not leave a spouse short. We check beneficiaries and look at whether whole life insurance or universal life insurance makes sense for what you want to pass on.

When it makes sense to plan your income

You're five years or less from retiring
This is when your choices count the most. What you decide now shapes your income for decades.
You know your balance but not your monthly figure
Knowing what's in your 401(k) doesn't tell you how much you can safely spend each month. If that question stumps you, let's talk.
A market slide would worry you
A large drop just as withdrawals begin can cause damage that lasts. If that concerns you, some of your income may fit better in something that doesn't rise and fall with the market.
You're moving money from an old plan
Leaving a job often means moving money. That's a good time to choose where it goes and what it should do.
Your spouse relies on your pension or check
Certain pension and Social Security elections sharply reduce what a survivor receives. We look at ways to keep your spouse provided for.

How it works with us

  1. 1

    First phone call

You tell us where you are and what you are hoping for. We tell you what to gather, like recent statements and your Social Security estimate. There is no charge for this conversation.

  2. 2

    Sit-down review

We meet at a time that suits you and go through your numbers together. We ask about the life you want, not just the accounts.

  3. 3

    Your written plan

We put your income sources, a monthly target and any product options on paper. Each option shows what it costs and what it does. You take it with you and think it over.

  4. 4

    Follow-through and check-ins

If you choose to move forward, we handle the paperwork and keep you updated. We stay reachable by phone for questions, and we revisit the plan when life changes.

What drives the cost

There's no charge to talk through your plan. Costs only come up if you pick a product, and they differ widely between products. Every fee and charge is shown to you in writing before you sign.

Kind of annuity
A basic income annuity tends to have fewer moving parts than one with growth features or riders. Additional features usually add cost.
Riders you can add
Options such as lifetime income guarantees or long-term care benefits come with separate charges. We only recommend ones that fix an actual problem for you.
Surrender periods
Plenty of annuities charge a fee for early withdrawals. A longer surrender period can bring a better rate but less flexibility, so we fit the term to your timeline.
Your age and health
When life insurance is part of the plan, your age and health affect the premium. Beginning earlier typically costs less.

Common questions about retirement income

Is buying an annuity required?
No. Lots of people have a good retirement without one. We explain when an annuity makes sense, typically when you want a fixed check to cover basic bills, and when it doesn't. If it's not right for you, we tell you.
Do I need a certain amount saved for this to be worthwhile?
You don't need any minimum to talk with us. A person with a small IRA and Social Security faces as many decisions as someone with a big balance. The stakes simply feel different.
Do you take the place of my financial advisor or CPA?
No. Our focus is income and insurance options. If you already work with an advisor or tax preparer, we're happy to coordinate with them so everything in your plan points the same way.
What's the right time to start Social Security?
That hinges on your health, savings, marital status and when you retire. Delaying increases your check, but it doesn't suit everyone. We go over your situation and lay out the trade-offs.
Do you help people who live outside Cedar Park?
We do. Our clients come from all over the area, including Leander, Round Rock, Georgetown and Liberty Hill. Calling us is the simplest way to begin.

Know what your monthly paycheck will be

Bring your statements and your questions. We will lay out your options in plain words, the way we would for a neighbor, and you decide what comes next.
